10 Villains I Just Love

What happened to villains? I like many children grew up on Disney films and because of this I grew up thinking villains are bad and should be hated because they are so bad; that was a much simpler time. Nowadays we get villains that are so amazing, attractive, mysterious and charismatic that its simply impossible to hate them, now this does make the story more interesting but it makes me wonder about my moral compass when I find myself cheering for a villain. Here are 10 villains I personally just love.

Beware of some spoilers.

10 Randy Orton – WWE

From a young age I have been a massive wrestling fan, I once caught a brief glimpse of a match on TV but I was hooked immediately. Now forgetting the whole “Wrestling is fake” argument (its not fake), at the end of the day wrestling is an art, a tale of good Vs evil, A hero (Known in wrestling as a face) Vs A Villain (Known in Wrestling as a Heel) some superstars can blend between Heel and Face and be perfect in both Shawn Michaels is one such superstars; However there are some superstars that are born Face superstars or Heel Superstars and here I have to point to Randy Orton.

Randy Orton is an amazing Heel he is cocky, aggressive, spiteful and can do anything to make you hate him. As a heel he has had so many great matches, moments and rivalries and then the times when he has turned Face he is bland and vanilla and its really hard to get behind him. Now this is down to poor booking rather than Randy himself but it’s disappointing to see the two characters back to back. Give me heel Randy any day.

9 Julian Slink – Blood Drive

Blood Drive was a severely underrated show this year made by Midnight Grindhouse and shown on SYFY it is a slick, sexy and dirty thrill ride filled with blood, gore and foul mouthed rants. At the centre of it all is Julian Slink the charismatic leader of the Blood Drive he is extremely evil and manipulative always playing people many steps in advance; this is shown when we find out that main character Grace is only in the Blood Drive because of how he caused Grace’s sister Karma to go crazy on drugs. Colin Cunningham is amazing in this part and its annoyed me we won’t get a season 2, I’ll say this now #RenewBloodDrive.

8 Illusive Man – Mass Effect Series

I love the whole Mass Effect series (even Andromeda had its high points for me) in the original trilogy we had a sub villain alongside The Reapers there was The Illusive Man. The Illusive Man the leader of a human first group called “Cerberus” who plan to make humans the most dominate race in the universe you can imagine how dark this character could be, voiced by Martin Sheen this character sounds great as well. The best part of this character is in Mass Effect 2 you start and work for him and Cerberus. When you work for him you even start to think maybe his methods are acceptable and that is scary.

7 Sideshow Bob – The Simpsons

Simpsons have always held a big spot in my heart and some of my favourite involved the mishaps of Sideshow Bob trying to kill Bart. Starting way back in season 1 Bart thwarted Sideshows Bobs plans to frame Krusty for robbing the Kwik-E-Mart, ever since then we have seen several amazing and hilarious episodes where Sideshow Bob has tried to kill Bart. My favourite of these episode has to be the episode where they parody of Cape Fear called “Cape Feare”. The element that makes this so perfect is the voice of Kelsey Grammer.

6 Ra’s Al Ghul - Arrow

Honestly I was never liked Ra’s Al Ghul until Arrow, the Batman Begins incarnation just didn’t have the right level of mystique and the comics keep him in the background only coming out for special events or filler stories. In Arrow its written so well and Matt Nable is so dark, mysterious and I actually believed he was the legendary “Head Of The Demon” and seeing how he seemed to turn Oliver Queen evil made me love him even more, and when you consider Ra’s body was never found I hope we see him return.

5 Neo Cortex – Crash Bandicoot Series

Growing up as a PlayStation user in the 90s my childhood was full of plays and replays of the Crash Bandicoot series, I loved replaying and re-experiencing the games over and over, these games are remnants of a bygone era the likes we may never see again; and the thing that made me return again and again was not the clueless bandicoot it was the Mad Scientist DR NEO CORTEX. There was just something about him that made me want to replay the game over and over honestly as far as Villains go he was my first love.

4 Bobo Del Rey – Wynonna Earp

Regular visitors of the Frounks Files will know how much I love Wynonna Earp a series with balls to the wall action, strong characters, amazing storylines and one hell ride on the demon express highway. At the centre of it season one was Mr Bobo Del Rey a demon revenant part of the Earp Curse that has plagued the family for so long. I started of hating him in season one but grew too love him by the end which is why I was so happy when he returned in season 2, cunning, cocky and terrifying I just can’t help but think “Damn I hate you… but oh shit you’re cool”

3 Jason Voorhees – Friday The 13th

Friday the 13th has a long and complicated history one that could fill another post like this so many twist turns, revelations and theories it is one of the cult horror franchises and will stand the test of time. In such a massive series like this you are going to need an awesome villain and enter JASON (Sorry Heavy Rain flashback)… Jason is an ungodly killing machine that has survived so much to stand as a king of horror. For me I stopped cheering for the camp goers a long time ago and just started cheering every time Jason killed one of those young campers who had it coming if you think about it.

2 Joker - DC

He was bound to be here, if you write a list of loveable Villains the Clown Prince of Crime has to make an appearance, out of all the major Batman Villains no one has reached the levels he has. I just love his attitude and humour, when it comes down to it how many villains will just break into fits of laughter after taking a beating most start crying, complaining or sucking their thumbs. Throughout the years there have been several incarnations all that have brought a loveable quirks to the character of the Joker and for me Joker comes in 2nd simply because he created my favourite villain… You know who it is right?

1 Harley Quinn - DC

Anyone who knows me will know I absolutely love Harley Quinn, started as nothing more than a throw away character added to show how an abusive relationship has deadly effects on the mind Harley was never meant to be as massive as she is; Harley has risen up from a Villains sidekick to a hardcore Villain in her own right and she has even gone on to have an incredibly successful comic book series of her own, Harley is also multi-layered unlike most villains (some on this list) don’t have a heart they are bitter shells of hate and wouldn’t do a single bit of good for anyone but Harley actually has a heart like when she refused to fight Black Canary because realising she was pregnant most other villains wouldn’t care, Most of all I think the fact that Harley has gone through such pain, punishment and torture but manage to come out of it stronger is such an inspiration that I just can’t help but love her.

There is my list people now i know i am not the only person who loves my villians so feel free to sound off in the comments telling me who your most loved villains are, if you want to know about future post follow me on twitter at @frounks_ryan
