5 Games That Never Got a Sequel (When They Deserved One)

With series like Final Fantasy, Metal Gear and Assassins Creed sequels are common place in the business today, many times these sequels are met with fanfare and other times with rapturous boos; This list is not about that but about games that didn’t get the chance to experience the feeling of a sequel, whether its because there was no interest in a sequel, the company had other plans, the company went bankrupt or a number of other reasons. Here I list 5 games I feel should have had a sequel but unfortunately never did.

WATCH FOR SPOILERS

5- Beyond Two Souls

Beyond Two Souls is an emotional roller coaster of swirling emotions QTEs, heartbreaking decisions and a plot that is the best game written by David Cage to date. I loved the game from start to finish and Ellen Page’s performance is one of the best Video Games acting performances I’ve ever seen.

The big problem with a sequel in this case is that there are so many endings to this game that a sequel would need to make an ending cannon which would make the open plot and free choices pretty redundant, but with the post credit ending showing a world after the events of the game would lead you to think that a sequel is on the cards, maybe once Detroit: Become Human is done we may get more in this series (Fingers Crossed).

4- Silent Hill

Silent Hill was one of the kings of survival horror and a massive rival to Resident Evil so when the short teaser “PT” dropped it sent many tongues wagging and then even more people got excited when we found out it was a taster of what we would be getting in the new Silent Hill. Unfortunately after the fall out between Hideo Kojima and Konami Silent Hills was thrown to the pile of cancelled video games we will sadly never see. This was such a disappointment for me as I am a massive Horror fan and was looking forward to play this game and now it will never be.

3- Elder Scrolls 6/Skyrim

It was bound to be on here, I would have put this game higher on the list but there are two more games I wish had a sequel more than this game. Elder Scrolls has been a series constantly redefining the gaming industry and raising the bar for Fantasy games. There are many, many people calling for a new Elder Scrolls game but all we seem to get is constant re-releases of Skyrim which yes is great its an amazing game but please give us something new.

2- Kingdom of Amalur Reckoning

Now I have to start this point by tipping my hat to someone I am a fan of the lovely Ellen Rose at Outside Xtra, I was going to put this game on the list but its thanks to her that this game is so high.

Now KOAR has everything a great story, amazing gameplay, awesome combat system as well as one of the best character customisation for its time. With series like Dragon Age it is clear that this genre of video games is a deep gold mine and could have had many more instalments. It’s a shame because it deserved several sequels.

1- Dark Chronicle/Dark Cloud 2

Now I spent many, many hours playing Dark Chronicle it had an amazing story, a mix of colourful characters, time travel and a battle system that could turn on you in one level making you constantly building up your weapons. Level 5 had a real chance to launch a massive series here and yet we only got two games and I was so disappointed at that.

When you consider that Dark Cloud went into Dark Chronicle by introducing new characters but linking the two stories with the use of the Atlamillia Stones which are these magic stones allowing the wearer to travel 100 years in the past or future, using the stones you rebuild the present world in order to repair or improve the future. Now Level 5 could have easily done this again or sent Max and Monica out on another adventure.

Now I know there are many, many more games that wrongly were denied a sequel so please send you opinions in the comments I will love to hear of more games you feel should have got sequels.
